During week 5 this term, the GSA have organised a week of useful skills sessions to help you in all different aspects of life! These range from practical skills, knowledge based skills and sessions designed to help you wellbeing. Check out the descriptions of each session below and sign up (places are limited for each session:
Monday 15th May – Careers CV Workshop – 16:00 – 17:00 – SLB/006
How to write effective CVs to market your skills to employers
- Explore what employers are looking for and what to include;
- Understand how to tailor your CV to a specific opportunity;
- Polish your use of language and understand how to articulate your skills
Tuesday 16th May – Self Defence Class – 18:00 – 20:00 – ATB/042
Learn basic self defence techniques you can use if you are ever attacked
- Physical techniques covered with a specialist instructor;
- Theory covered with “reasonable use of force” ;
- Please wear comfortable clothing / footwear
Wednesday 17th May – Improv-e your confidence – 14:00 – 17:00 – G/020
An improv comedy class that will focus on building your confidence performing and in everyday life
- Session covers games and skills designed to work on stage presence and confidence building;
- Delivered by current member of touring improv troupe ASD Improv and former Shambles Improv member Matthew Stallworthy;
- Please wear comfortable clothing
Thursday 18th May – Basic Sewing skills – 12:00 – 14:00 – V/SCR
Make and mend with this session which covers how to repair your clothes
- Learn to sew up holes and buttons onto clothes
- Feel free to bring clothes that need mending
Friday 19th May – Introduction to British Sign Language – 12:00 – 14:00 – SLB/002
A beginners sign language class covering simple phrases along with deaf awareness, linguistic information and some games!
